シカゴの魂を表現するブルース。そのブルース音楽を経験するなら、シカゴのLincoln Park (リンカンパーク) エリアにあるB.L.U.E.S. が一番です。過去から現在に至る多くのブルースアーティストの歴史が刻まれた小さいクラブです。小さいお店なので、こじんまりとした感じで、お店のいろいろなスペシャルドリンクと共にその日のブルースリズムを楽しめます。

 

テーブルがお互い近いので、友人、そして隣席の人と共にくつろげる雰囲気になっています。演奏中、ゆったり座ってくつろいだり、周りの人と会話を始めることもできます。とても有名なお店なので、音楽のエキスパートからシカゴの魂を呼びさます音楽を聞きたい人まで世界中からいろいろな人が訪れていることが分かります。

 

このお店の音楽の一番良いところは（生演奏であることに加えて）、アーティスト／バンドがエネルギッシュであること、そして観客を夢中にさせるだけでなく彼らの音楽の中に観客を引き込むことです。近辺には多くのレストランがあるので、食事後に立ち寄って、すばらしい生演奏を聞きながらくつろぎその日の夜を締めくくるのにいい場所です。念のために注意を。お店にはカバー・チャージがあります。けれども、いったん店内に入ればそれを払う価値がある、と分かるでしょう。

B.L.U.E.S.

 

The Blues, the music that describes the soul of Chicago., and there is no better place to experience that music than B.L.U.E.S. located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park. It’s a small little club with a rich history of many blues artists that are currently performing or have performed there. Dude to the small size, it feels quite intimate inside, with various drink specials to sip on while enjoying the rhythm of the night’s show.

 

The tables are close in providing a cozy atmosphere for you and your friends, along with the people sitting near by. With the music playing, its very easy to sit back and relax while striking up a conversation with the people around you. Due to it’s popularity, very common to find people all over the world ranging from music aficionados, to those that want to see music that invokes the spirit of Chicago.

 

Best part of the music (aside from it being live) is the artist or band are high energy and are not only pumping up the crowd but in many cases get the crowd involve with the creation of their musical story. With many restaurants nearby, it is a wonderful place to go after your meal, to listen to great live music and just take the load off, making it an excellent conclusion to your evening. Though just a heads up, there is a cover, but once you go inside, you will now paying the cover was worth it.

Jim’s Original（ジムズ・オリジナル）

 

急いでいる時、素早く且つ安く食べられるところをお探しですか。Union StreetにあるJim’s Originalがおすすめです。このお店は、イリノイ大学シカゴ校の近く、University Village（ユニバーシティ・ビレッジ）に1939年に開店以来、Original Polish Sausage（ポーリッシュ・ソーセージ)を売っています。

 

小さいお店で、注文してすぐに持ち帰りできるようにデザインされたこのお店は、ポーリッシュ・ソーセージをシカゴ・スタイルにしました。シカゴ・スタイルとは、ソーセージにマスタードと焼いた玉ねぎを添えます。もしお店の人にケチャップを頼んだら、シカゴアン（地元シカゴの人）に変な顔をされるので気を付けて下さい。（シカゴではケチャップを使いません。それは暗黙のルールです。）食べるのを待ちきれない人には、その場で食べられるようメタル製カウンターが注文ステーションの隣にあります。

 

ポーリッシュ・ソーセージがあまり好きではない人には、ハンバーガー、フィッシュサンドイッチ、ホットドッグがあります。全てのメニューに、マスタードと玉ねぎが付き、ハラペーニョ（メキシコの唐辛子）と無料のポテトフライが添えられて出てきます。

 

お店は24時間営業で、お金持ちにもそうでない人にも人気があります。そこに行けば、どんな人に出くわすか分かりません。総じて、仕事の前後に簡単に食事を済ませたい時、または夜出かけた後など、Jim’s Originalはどんな時にでも立ち寄るのに良い場所です。

In a hurry, need a quick bite to eat, and that is also cheap? Jim’s Original on Union Street is the place to be! In University Village, close to University of Illinois at Chicago, Jim’s Original (commonly known as just “Jim’s”) from 1939, has been serving up the Original Polish Sausage.

A small shop, designed for grab and go eating, has been making polish sausages the Chicago way, which is mustard and grilled onions. However, be aware of the annoying looks of Chicagoan if you ask for ketchup on your sausage. (Chicago doesn’t do ketchup, it’s just an unspoken law) For those who are impatient to eat, just next to the ordering station is a metal counter to set down your food and eat away.

For those that aren’t a fan of the polish sausage, there are burgers, fish sandwiches and hot dogs. All orders include mustard and onions, with peppers on the side and free fries.

Open 24 hours, whether you’re rich or poor, you’ll never know who’ll you bump into. To sum it up, if you want a quick bite to eat before or after work, or after a night out, anytime is a good time to grab some Jim’s

Bar DeVille（バー・デヴィーユ）

Ukrainian Village（ウクライナ街）に、他では見ることのない独特な暗い外観の建物があります。そのお店ではゆったりとした雰囲気を味わえます。お店の名前は、Bar DeVille（「bar of the city」の仏語訳）です。

 

店に一歩足を踏み入れると、シャンデリアの照明とレースのカーテンがあり、神秘的な魅力を醸し出しています。さらに店内に入ると、薄暗い照明とヨーロピアン調のデザインがそのお店の雰囲気を作っています。お店には、地ビールからよく知られているブランドまで豊富な品揃えのビールや、基本のカクテルから丁寧に作られたマティーニ、マルガリータまであり、その日の気分に合う飲み物が必ずあります。広々とした店内、ゆったりしたブース席はとても心地よく快適です。奥に歩き進むと、写真撮影ブースがあり、そこでの思い出を写真におさめることができます。（たいてい夜は長い列ができるので覚悟を。）その先のスペースには、ビリヤードテーブルがあります。さらに奥には、もう一つのBar スペースと共に日替わりDJ による曲がかかったダンスフロアがあります。そこには、ダンスフロアを囲むようにして、曲の合間に休めるよう半円形のソファーがあります。

 

シカゴの隠れ家的お店であり、ヨーロピアン調の装飾と絵画を備えたBar DeVilleでは、活気にあふれた雰囲気でありながら、他の店とは違い音楽のボリュームが程よく抑えられているので、音に遮られることなく普通に会話をすることができます。このお店の残念な点は、現金払いのみ、ということです。（でも、店内にATMがあります。）加えて、スペースが限られているのととても人気があるため、お店に早く入らないと（深夜０時前）一時間ぐらい並んで待たなくてはならないでしょう。

In Ukrainian Village is a dark looking building, providing a one of a kind experience that provides a laid-back atmosphere. That bar is called Bar Deville or “bar of the city” from its French translation.

 

When one first walks by, it’s a ominous looking place, with crystal light fixtures and lace curtains, giving it a mysterious appeal. When one walks inside, the dim lighting and European influenced design, helps set the scene, and with a wide selection of beers, ranging from small local breweries to the commonly known brands, and mixed drinks, from basic to carefully crafted martinis and margaritas, there is something to match your mood. The spacious areas and the comfortable booths are very welcoming and as one starts to make their way in to the back area, you will notice a photo booth to take pictures as a way for remembering your time there(be aware that most nights there is a long line).  Past that is a pool table to play games and make bets. In the back room is another bar along with the dance floor playing the current night’s DJ playlist. Surrounding the dance floor are semi-circle couches to relax between songs.

 

Bar DeVille, one of the hidden gems of the Chicago, with an European inspired décor and paintings, one feels a lively aura, and unlike other bars, the music is kept reasonable, so one can have normal conversations. The downside to this place is that it is cash only, but they do have an ATM, and due to the space limitation and its popularity, if you don’t get there early (before midnight), you will have to wait in line, which at times can be up to an hour.

Margie’s Candies（マルジース・キャンディー）

Margie’s Candies。全てを知っているお店です。1921年にWestern Street（ウェスターン通り）とArmitage Street（アーミテージ通り）の角に開店以来、初めてのロマンティックデートやバレンタイン当日の最後の買い物に一番のお店として存在しています。一世紀近く、オリジナルレシピで作った特製チョコレートやアイスクリームを提供し続けています。店内に入ると、ウッドパネル、昔ながらのカーペット、過去90年の思い出の品が目に入り、その時代にタイムトリップしたかのようです。店内に入って最初に気づくのは、各テーブルにジュークボックス（残念ながら今は動きません）、天井にはたくさんのぬいぐるみ、店内中央には大きいカウンターがあることです。そのカウンターには、お店自慢のチョコレートやオーナーのビートルズの思い出の品々が並べられています。

 

お店のデザートは、美味しい～。その言葉につきます。50以上の自家製デザートがあり、必ずお気に入りのものに出会うでしょう。小さいコーンアイスからモルト、シェイクから巨大サンデーに至るまであります。子供には、レジの隣に特別サービスがあります。学校の成績でＡを取った子にはアイスクリームを、成績がＣからＡに上がった子にはバナナスプリットをそれぞれ無料で一つもらえます。

甘いものが大好物な人には、「Royal George（ロイヤル・ジョージ）」がいいでしょう。お店のメニューで代表的なデザートである「Royal George」は、アイスのスクープが25個、その上にたくさんのファッジ、キャラメル、ナッツ、ホイップクリームがのっています。過去の経験からすると、これを全て食べきるには5～6人ぐらい必要な大きさです。

 

総じて、値段は手頃で量はたっぷりです。お店にはランチメニューとディナーメニューもありますが、デザートメニューの方がはるかに人気があります。夏の間やバレンタインデーの頃には、外まで長蛇の列ができるので（最長待ち時間2時間）あらかじめ覚悟が必要です。その心配を除けば、デート、あるいは友人とアイスクリームを食べながらおしゃべりするのに良い場所です。

Margie’s Candies. A business that has seen it all. Since opening in 1921 on the corner of Western and Armitage, it has been the premier spot of romantic firsts and last minute Valentine’s day gifts. For close to a century, Margie’s Candies has been serving up its own chocolate and ice cream creations from its own recipes. When one walks in, it is almost as walking back in time as you notice the wood siding, and floor carpeting and memorabilia of the past 90 years. One of the first things you notice is that each table has it’s own jukebox, (unfortunately they do not work), on the ceilings, you see many stuffed animals, and in the middle is a big counter where they proudly display their famous chocolates and the owner’s Beatles collections.

 

The sweets… mmmmm… All I can say about that. With more than 50 creations, there is something for everyone, from small cones to malts and shakes to massive sundae creations. For the little ones, a special deal is offered next to the register, free ice cream cone for every “A” and a banana split for improving a “C” to an “A”. For the ones with a big sweet tooth, the Royal George is what they will wish for. The Royal George, the signature item on the menu is a 25-scoop sundae, with lots of fudge, caramel, nuts, and whipped cream to feed a small army. From my experience, it takes about 5-6 people to completely finish it.

 

Overall the price, is good and you get a lot for what you order. There is also a lunch and dinner menu, but no one orders anything from that section. Though be prepared for the summer and Valentine’s day as lines are usually out the door with wait times of up to 2 hours. Other than that, a great place to take a date or spend time with friends conversing over delicious ice cream.

Anthem（アンセム）

 

好きなスポーツチームを応援する場所を探していますか。美味しいビールを飲みながら楽しい時間を過ごせるシカゴの地元Barを探していますか。それならAnthemです。Anthemは、Wicker Park（ウィッカー・パーク) エリアにあり、公共交通機関、ハイウェイ（高速道路）に近く、行きやすい場所です。中に入ると、くつろぎ感があり、すぐに好きなスポーツチームの試合を見ながら大声で叫ぶことができる雰囲気です。お店はとても広く、他のお客さんにぶつかる心配もなく心地良く感じるでしょう。さらに、60インチTVが4台、150インチと190インチのプロジェクターが１つずつあるので、どんな試合の瞬間も見逃す心配はいりません。店内には、スペシャルメニューが書かれたチョークボード（黒板）と、天井に掲げられた大きなアメリカ国旗があり、古き良き時代のBarを思わせます。

 

Anthemの料理は、おそらく市内にあるお店の中でもとても美味しいBar料理の店の一つです。「Jucy Lucy」として知られるお店の目玉メニューは、バーガーパテの中にチーズが入っていて、注文を受けてから調理されます。とても美味しいハンバーガーです。その他のおすすめメニューはdrumlettes（ドラムレット）というもので、ロリーポップ（キャンディー）の形をしたチキンウィングです。お好みのソースをつけて食べます。それから「Waffle Fries」として知られる、この近辺で一番のアペタイザー（前菜）があります。Waffle Fryの上にパルメジャンチーズ、シーソルト（海塩）、黒胡椒がまぶされ、ホットソースが添えられて出てきます。これは、どのメインメニューにも合いますし、バーガーには追加料金$1.99だけで追加することができます。

 

総じて、お店の値段はリーズナブルで、友達に会ったり好きなスポーツチームを応援したりくつろぐ場所としてちょうど適しています。

Need a place to cheer for your favorite sports team? Looking for a local Chicago bar to have a good time with good beers? Anthem is your place to be. Located in the Wicker Park area, close to public transportation and the highway, it is an easy place to get to. Walking inside, there is a feeling of being at a relaxed spot, ready to scream your head off as you watch your favorite team compete to win the game! With wide spaces, you’ll feel very comfy without having to bump into people, and with four 60” TVs and a 190” and a 150” projector you will never have to worry about missing a moment of whatever game you are watching. With chalkboards having what specials are and a big American flag on the ceiling, you get a sense of nostalgia from bars of the old days.

 

Their food it probably one of the best bar food you could find around in the city. Their main item known as the “Jucy Lucy” is a cheese stuffed hamburger patty, cooked to order, is one delicious hamburger. Among other top items are the drumlettes, chicken wings in the shape of lollipops which the sauce of your choosing put on them to make an excellent snack. Then there is the best appetizer in the area, known as the “Waffle Fries.” They are waffle fries, with parmesan cheese, sea salt and black pepper poured on top, with a little hot sauce on the side, it is the perfect food companion to whatever main course you order, and can be added to any burger for only $1.99.

 

Overall, the price is right for a relaxed place to meet with your friends and to watch your favorite sports teams.
